Modern Guyana

During the 1800's the French and British opposed Dutch rule of Guyana. In 1831 it became the colony of British Guyana. In the late 1800's when slavery was abolished many East Indians were brought to Guyana to work the land. Today in Guyana the descendents of these East Indian peoples make up the majority of the population. [BM] {UA}
