From 1964 to 1992 the People's National Congress was in power. The country suffers from poverty and is dependent on foreign aid despite having the purest bauxite in the world, gold and excellent agricultural land. Unfortunately, most of Guyana's large companies are multinationals, thus taking money outside the country.
