Modern Bangladesh
Bangladesh was ruled by
Buddhist Kings from the 8-12th Century.
Muslim invaders took over causing many inhabitants
to convert to Islam.
By 1750, Bengal was under British rule.
The economy was dominated by
export crops of opium, jute & rice.
In 1947 Bengal was split, Hindu West Bengal, including
Calcutta, remained with India,
& Muslim East Bengal became the Eastern province of Pakistan.
