Medieval Zimbabwe
Between the 16th & 19th
centuries Portuguese slave traders from Mozambique were active in the region which is
now
known as Zimbabwe. As the slave trade died British merchants & missionaries arrived. Prior
to the arrival of
the British, European influence on the natives of this region was minimal.
Cecil Rhodes was among the first British to arrive. Rhodes was granted mineral concessions
in Northern &
Southern Rhodesia. He was to become a famous English colonial capitalist.
