The Polish people were ruled by the Piast dynasty. This dynasty had close ties to the Holy Roman Empire & introduced Christianity to the Polish. Poland was a strong & powerful kingdom. The Piast dynasty held power for several centuries, ending in 1370. With the death of the Piast dynasty, Poland was ruled by the Anjou king of Hungary. His daughter, Jadwiga, succeeded to the throne & married the grand duke of Lithuania in 1386. This marriage established the Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania. [BM] {UA}
