Ancient Israel

After the death of King Solomon, Israel was split into 2 nations:Judah & Israel. Israel was conquered by the Assyrians, while Judah was conquered by the Babylonians. During the 5th century BC the Persian empire established a reunited Israel, only to be conquered by Alexander the Great by the 4th century BC. This hellenic rule would be cut off through the revolt of the Macabees in 141 BC, thus reestablishing a Jewish state. [BM] {UA}
