Botticelli

In Botticelli's works there is a marriage of both antiquity and contemporary religios faith. In the "Birth of Venus" the two wind gods on the left could be Biblical angels, while the figure on the right seems to be a personification of Spring welcoming Venus. The actions of Spring seem to parallel those of St.John who welcomed the Savior in the baptism of Christ. Christian baptism is a "rebirth in God", similar to antiquity which claims the birth of Venus as hope of future rebirth. [MH] {NR}
