The Middle Kingdom
ISIS EXTENDS WINGED ARMS, SERI I GRAVE, EGYPT The Middle Kingdom came after the collapse of the Pharaoh's power in 2134BC. Egypt was in a period of political unrest and bad luck. Middle Kingdom pharaohs tended to be personal rather than institutional. The result was a less conservative style, a loosening of the old rules. Some characteristics of the new style are foreshortening of the shoulders on the people and a second ground line. The result is a newly found sense of depth. [MH] {GB}
