Wandering Minstrels
FLOTENBLASER I At about 1100AD wandering minstrels were strolling the countrysides of Europe. Since they performed alone a particular sound was produced. Without a partner, the musician is limited only to his skills as a busker or an entertainer. Because the soloist is the actual tonal substance to fall on the listener's ears, in this sense the performer is the media of the music, not the piece or the instrument. This Dutch painting by Hendrik Terbrugghen is entitled "Flotenblaser I". MORE! [AW] {MI}
