Gilbert lived from 1836-1911, and Arthur Seymour Sullivan lived from 1842-1900.
At 14 Sullivan had won the Mendelssohn Scholarship prize.
The most valuable musician prize in the U.K.
At 20 he wrote and performed an overture to Shakespeare's "The Tempest".
His first comical Opera was written when he was 25.
