Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
An obsession is an idea that a person feels forced to think about again and again.
A compulsion is an action that a person feels forced to do over and over.
A person who has an obsessive-compulsive disorder may find his whole life dominated by repetitive thoughts and actions.
For example, if a person is constantly thinking that he has to wash his hands every 15 minutes or he’ll die from germs,
he will make sure he’s always close to a sink and soap.
Concentrating on keeping his hands clean doesn’t really make him happy, but it helps him
cope with his strong fear of germs.
