Protons
A proton has a charge of +1. It is found in the nucleus of an atom and does not move. The number of protons in a nucleus represents the atomic number of an element. Every element has a different number of protons, so every element has a different atomic number. For example, the atomic number of oxygen is eight; therefore, oxygen has eight protons in its nucleus. The Periodic Table arranges the elements in order of increasing atomic number.
