Granite

Granite is a common igneous rock that is rich with feldspars or orthoclase and hematite. The ratio of these minerals determines the colour of the rock; feldspar-rich granite is usually white or gray, while orthoclase-rich granite is red or pink. Important minerals found in granite include quartz and feldspar, visible to the naked eye. Granite forms from magma that cools slowly. Granite is widely used as a building material. [LM] {CC} {SS}
