Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are composed of only carbon (C = "carbo-") and water (H2O =
"-hydrate").
The number of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms present in a carbohydrate is always
given by the formula Cm(H2O)n, where m and n are
natural numbers: 1, 2, 3, etc...
Carbohydrates are also referred to as sugars. There are 3 types of
carbohydrates: monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides.
