Pyrite
Pyrite (iron sulphide) is extremely heavy and hard, yet is fragile and can be broken apart easily. If
pyrite is hit with a hammer, sparks fly off from its bright metallic surface. Pyrite is yellow in
colour and is easily mistaken for gold. This very common mineral is also referred to as "fool's
gold". Pyrite is very common and can be found in rocks of many types around the world. Pyrite
has been mined for various commercial uses.
