Sulphides
The sulphides contain the sulphide ion. Sulphides are soft and brittle; they are relatively heavy
with a metallic lustre. Most metals are obtained from ores of sulphide. The chief source of lead is
an ore called lead sulphide. Rayon, a synthetic fibre, is made of carbon disulphide. Pyrite, also
known as iron disulphide, is sometimes called "fool's gold" because people sometimes mistake it
for gold because of its lustrous gold colour.
