Sulphates are Inorganic Compounds containing the Sulphate Ion. Sulphates are insoluble in water and light in colour. Most Sulphates are fragile. Hydrogen Sulphate, commonly known as Sulphuric Acid, is used to produce fertilizers, detergents and dyes. Plaster of Paris, used in the walls and ceiling of houses and buildings, is Calcium Sulphate or Gypsum. Barium Sulphate is a pigment in paints and in cosmetics. [LM] {CC}
