Corundum (aluminum oxide) is one of the hardest minerals. Some colours of corundum have different names. Red corundum is called ruby, and quality corundum of other colours is called sapphire. This mineral is found in a variety of environments and is associated with a variety of other minerals. Corundum is mined in various places, including Burma, Greece, and Sri Lanka.
