Tourmaline
There are a variety of members within the tourmaline group, each forming hexagonal crystals that
are transparent or translucent. Tourmaline (a complex silicate containing boron and aluminum) is
a common mineral that is heavy and hard. It develops in igneous and sedimentary rocks. It is
found in parts of Italy, Brazil, and North America. Tourmaline is used in manufacturing
high-pressure gauges. Quality tourmaline is considered a gemstone.
