The olivine group consists of two separate minerals, fayalite and forsterite, that chemically combine to produce olivine. Fayalite contains silica and magnesium, and forsterite contains silica and iron. Olivine is a yellow-green mineral that occurs in igneous rocks. It is very common, and can be found in places such as Germany and Egypt. Quality olivine is called peridot, and is considered a gemstone. [LM] {CC} {SS}
