Created by metamorphic rock processes, the garnet group is commonly found in continental shields such as the Canadian Shield. Garnet (aluminum silicate) can also be found in Scotland and western Norway. There are many different species of garnet, ranging in colour from deep red to reddish-orange. Garnet is often found in small clusters within other rocks. This mineral is considered a gemstone, and is the birthstone for January. [BM] {CC} {SS}
