Monazite
Monazite is a phosphate mineral containing elements of the lanthanides series of the Periodic
Table. It is usually yellow or reddish-brown, and can be radioactive depending on the elements
present. This mineral develops in metamorphic and igneous rocks. Monazite is mined as a major
source of lanthanide elements in places including Australia, Brazil, India, and Sri Lanka.
