Phosphates
Phosphates are a group of inorganic compounds identified by the phosphate ion PO43-.
Phosphates are soft, brittle, and brightly coloured. Phosphate minerals are commonly found in
phosphate rock. Turquoise is actually a hydrous (meaning water is present) phosphate of copper
and aluminum. Calcium phosphate is an important material for making steel, which is used to
construct bridges and buildings.
