The diamond receives its name from the Greek word "adamas" meaning "invincible". As the
name suggests, it is perhaps the one gemstone that can not be overcome. Found primarily in
Africa and Brazil the diamond has gained worldwide adoration. Diamonds, which are commonly
mistaken as quartz, come in a wide variety of colours. From stones that are colourless to those
that are red, blue, green, orange, brown and even black. Diamonds are extremely hard and this
characteristic has made it an expensive abrasive for drilling and cutting equipment. Diamond is
the birthstone for the month of April.
