Kernite
Kernite is also known as hydrous sodium borate. This mineral may be gray, white, or colourless.
It is found in nature associated with other borate minerals, and is more common than borax, a
mineral with similar chemical composition. The largest deposit of kernite occurs in Kern County,
California, USA. Kernite is named after this place, as this is where it was discovered. Kernite is
commercially mined as a source of boron.
