Borax
Borax (hydrous sodium borate) is a gray, white or colourless mineral. It is less common than
kernite, another borate mineral with similar chemical composition. It is water soluble and
produces a yellow flame when burned. Borax is formed from salt water that has evaporated.
Central Asia and the western United States have minable amounts of borax. This mineral is used
as a source of boric acid.
