Vauquelin discovered chromium in 1797. It has various uses in producing steel. Chromium gives glass an emerald green colour. Several Chromium compounds are used in quantitative analysis. All Chromium compounds are coloured. The principal ore of Chromium is chromite. Its name comes from chroma, the Greek word for colour.
