The nonmetals include carbon, nitrogen, oxygen,
phosphorus, and sulphur. These nonmetals are vital to
living organisms; carbon is the basis of all living
matter! Oxygen is the gas that heterotrophs need
to live, and nitrogen and phosphorus are important to
plants.
