Noble Gases
The noble (inert) gases are found in the right-hand column of the
Periodic Table, family 18. A noble gas is
stable because it has eight electrons in its outer
orbital. All of the gases in this family were
believed to be non-reactive, but scientists have been able
to react xenon, radon, and krypton with
fluorine. Noble gases are colourless, odourless, and
nonflammable. Helium is used to fill hot air
balloons. Neon is used in fluorescent lighting.
