Gallium was predicted and described by Mendeleev, but later discovered by de Boisbaudran in 1875. It is found in small amounts in the sulfide ores of Zinc and Germanium. Gallium is mainly used in transistors and high-temperature thermometers, as well as in laser lights. It is named after Gallia, which is Latin for France.
