Mosander discovered Lanthanum in 1839. Lanthanum is the first metal of the Lanthanide Series. It is mainly found the minerals monazite and bastnasite. Lanthanum compounds are used throughout the motion picture industry in studio lighting and projection. The name comes from the Greek word lanthanein, which means to lie hidden.
