Strontium was discovered by Davy in 1808.
It is mainly found in the minerals celestite and strontianite.
When Strontium is burned, it produces bright red-coloured flames.
This makes it useful in pyrotechnics.
A Strontium isotope is a beta emitter used in nuclear auxiliary power systems.
The name is derived from Strontian, a Scottish town.
