In 1939, francium was discovered by Perey in Paris. It is a radioactive chemical that is a result of alpha disintegration of actinium. Francium can also be found naturally in uranium minerals. Since francium is radioactive, there is probably less than an ounce of francium in all of the earth's crust at any time.
