HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Kingdom Protista

SOME ORGANELLES Kingdom Protista is a very large group of organisms. Early Protists are the ancestors of all forms of life except bacteria and blue-green algae. A protistan cell has its DNA enclosed in a nucleus and also has specialised structures like mitochondria, ribosomes and vacuoles. Some Protists have chloroplasts, which contain pigments necessary for photosynthesis. Modern day Protists include single-celled creatures, and larger organisms which do not have the specialised "tissues" that are seen in Plants and Animals. Single-celled Protists may have whip-like flagella or shorter cilia which help the cell to move about and to feed. [CH] {EN}
