Algae
Some taxonomists put all Algae (except the blue-greens) in Kingdom
Protista, as they are relatively simple forms. However some botanists
claim algae for the Plant Kingdom, because like plants they have
photosynthetic pigments and manufacture their own food, using sunlight as a
source of energy. Algae are divided into groups depending on the pigments
they contain and whether they store food as starch or oils. Golden Algae
(Chrysophyta), Brown Algae (Phaeophyta), Green Algae (Chlorophyta) and Red
Algae (Rhodophyta) are some of the divisions in this large group of
organisms.
