HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Class Gymnospermae

Pine and Spruce cones on snow The seed plants fall into two major groups. First to evolve about 345 million years ago were the Gymnosperms. "Gymnosperm" means "naked seed" and the seeds of these plants are not encased in an ovary, unlike those of "Angiosperms". Coniferous trees belong to the Gymnospermae. When the scales of a pine cone separate you can see that the seeds inside are open to the air. [CH] {EB}
