Maidenhair Tree
Maidenhair Tree Ginkgo biloba grows well even in relatively polluted
cities and the male trees have been cultivated all over the world for their
beauty and interest as "living fossils". Cones on the female trees have an
unpleasant smell but the seeds are eaten in China and Japan. In China the
Ginkgo is regarded as a sacred tree and it is used to prepare medicines. The
trees are up to 30 metres tall and unlike conifers, they lose their leaves in
winter.
