Trailing Juniper
Trailing Juniper Juniperus horizontalis is very much like common
Juniper but always low-growing in prickly mats. Its needles are paired and
green, not whitened like those of Juniperus communis. Its fruits are
blue-black berries and the plant is eaten by several kinds of animals. This
species is sometimes attacked by a fungus which stimulates the plant to
produce an abnormal mass of branches, a so-called "witches' broom".
