Weeping English Yew with berries Yews do not have seeds in dry woody cones like most of the other conifers. The fruit of the yew is a single seed wrapped in a fleshy "aril" which is brightly coloured. This picture is a weeping form of English Yew Taxus baccata. Two species of Taxus grow in Canada, the Ground Hemlock Taxus canadensis which spreads over the forest floor in eastern Canada, and the Western Yew Taxus brevifolia which grows on the Pacific coast.
