Tamarack
Tamarack Larix laricina is an unusual conifer because it loses its
leaves in the fall. At that time of year its golden colour stands out
against the background of its evergreen cousins. Tamarack needles are soft
and flexible and can look quite feathery and delicate. The wood is fairly
resistant to decay which makes it useful for poles and railroad ties.
