Ponderosa Pine Pinus ponderosa is widely used to make such things as door and window frames. It is a good-sized tree that grows in the western part of North America sometimes in pure stands. The long sharp needles are in clusters of usually three to a bunch though occasionally there are two. The scales of the cones also have sharp prickles. [CH] {NT}
