Conifers grow all over the world often forming great forests in cooler areas and on mountain slopes. They began to appear about 300 million years ago and were the dominant plants in the Mesozoic era. When the other great group of seed plants (Angiosperms) evolved, Conifers were displaced to some extent but they are still very successful in many regions.Most conifers are evergreen, keeping their needle-shaped leaves for more than one growing-season.
