Giant Sequoia
Giant Sequoia, Big Tree Sequoiadendron giganteum grows in a small
area of California. This species can reach an enormous size and can live for
thousands of years. The base of the trunk is thick and massive and the tree
tapers to a narrower diameter. The leaves are small and scale-like and the
female flowers develop into little rounded cones which ripen in two years.
Some include this species in the genus Sequoia.
