Bur-reed with flower clusters Bur-reeds Sparganium grow in shallow water around the margins of ponds. There are about 15 species which grow in most parts of the world except Africa and South America. They grow up from creeping stems (rhizomes) producing long narrow upright or floating leaves. The flowering stem has little round clumps of flowers at intervals, the lower heads consisting of female flowers and the ones higher up the stem having pollen-producing flowers. [CH] {FB}
