Screw Pine
Screw Pine Pandanus is related to the cat-tails and
bur-reeds. There are about 650 species in this genus of
trees shrubs and vines which have prop roots that grow
from the upper parts of the plant down to the ground.
The leaves have spiny margins and parallel-veining and
they appear to be set in a spiral which is due to the
screw-like growth of the stem. Plants have either male
or female flowers which are very simple with no petals.
Clusters of female flowers join to form a cone-like fruit.
