SCREW PINE The only family in Order Pandanales is the Screw Pine Family (Pandanaceae) which includes about 700 species. Screw Pines grow in hot climates along sea coasts amongst mangroves, or in swamps by rivers and lagoons. As the stems grow, they twist around in a spiral fashion which gives the family its common name. Some screw pines are large trees which grow stilt roots to support their trunks. The leaves of one species Pandanus odoratissimus are used in India to make a perfume called kewda attar. [CH] {EN}
