Of the four families in the Order Orchidales the Orchid Family (Orchidaceae) is the best-known. Many of the tropical species grow on trees (epiphytic) and many flowers have evolved in association with the creatures that pollinate them, so that some orchids closely resemble bees or butterflies. Orchids produce huge numbers of very tiny seeds and they are perhaps the most highly evolved group of plants. [CH] {EN}
