Subclass Monocotyledoneae
A monocotyledon seed has only one seed leaf. Flower parts in Monocotyledons
are often joined together to form simpler structures and they are considered
to be more highly evolved than the Dicotyledons. Their leaves tend to be of
a simple undivided shape and have veins parallel to the midrib rather than
branching off it. Flower parts such as sepals and petals are usually in
threes or multiples of three.
