Order Liliales
The Order Liliales has fifteen families including the very large Lily
family (Liliaceae) and the Iris Family (Iridaceae). Many species are
attractive garden plants. They are mostly non-woody (herbaceous) plants and
many of them have underground parts that store food and moisture (bulbs,
corms and rhizomes), to help the plant to withstand cold, dry conditions.
Flower parts are usually in threes and often the 3 sepals look like the 3
petals. Leaves are mostly strap-shaped with parallel veins.
