Wild Leek
Wild Leek Allium tricoccum has shiny green leaves
which appear in the woods of eastern North America in
the springtime, pushing up through the carpet of dead
leaves. The plant has a distinctive smell of onion or
garlic and its bulb is edible. The flowers appear later in
the year when the leaves have died down. The flowering
head is borne on a stiff stalk and its whitish flowers form
seed pods with black seeds which may persist into the
winter.
